Direct fuel injector: Ferrari California, an innovative approach for the future
August 12, 2008
The new California by Ferrari is the company’s first step to innovation. It was not that Ferrari needed to adopt something or go extinct, but it could be the testing grounds for future cars.
The Ferrari California is the first convertible hard-top from Ferrari, it is targeted to be more of a fun to drive cruiser two door car than just a Ferrari for the tracks. It has 46/54 weight distribution, a V-8 engine with 454 Hp and redline at 8000rpm.
This is the first Ferrari with Dual Clutch Transmission, before this the company used to use F1 based transmission. Some major modifications in the transmission system are shortening between pipes and the oil immersed clutches to give a good performance with higher levels of torque. Also no gaps between gear changes for delivery of Torque.
The latest Ferrari is supposed to do 0-60 in less than 4 seconds. This is the first Ferrari that uses direct fuel injection giving it higher power without increasing engine size and lowering its emissions too. The interior is made of Carbon-Fiber and Magnesium only to reduce weight. The car is meant to target Bentley Continental and Mercedes SL.
The new Ferrari California is supposed to be in the +/- 5% Ferrari F430 price range.
