Mercedes Benz HybridNo doubt, the global Automotive industry is aiming at environment friendly cars in different manners with different technology. Hybrid has been the most prominent technology as pioneered by Toyota and Honda. Well now with Lexus Super Sedan Hybrids and others, the German Marque of luxury, Mercedes Benz does not want to be left behind. The automaker is introducing a S400 Blue Hybrid model for its super saloon. It will cost around $100K and is expected to launch in the states next year. The German carmaker plans include Hybrid manufacturing on a large scale.

Mercedes claims that by 2015, 1 out of 5 cars will be a Hybrid in their production.  The car uses a Lithium ion Battery to generate a mileage of 30 Mpg. This will be a result of coupling a 3.5 Liter V-6 engine with a Electric Motor driven by the battery.

The battery is bigger than usual hybrid batteries so Mercedes has made a special arrangement to hook up the car’s Climate Control system to maintain the optimal temperature of the battery i.e. 15-35 degree Celsius for good performance.

The battery and motor add 165 pounds to the car, the performance figures are not bad either, with 299 Hp and 277 lbs. of torque. The car is still expensive as compared to a 88,000 dollars for a regular S-Class, we hope economies of scale balance for the environment.
